The Ottawa Carleton District School Boards will be hosting the one and only public meeting during the ARC process at 7pm on April 21st, 2009 at Rideau High School on 815 St Laurent Blvd. This meeting will allow the public to voice their concern about the loss of Colonel By SS, Rideau HS OR Gloucester HS in September 2010.
This will be the last time that the public will be able to voice their concern and have it on record. We also want to make sure that our supporters turn out with even greater numbers than was at our public community meeting. In the event Colonel By is selected for closure, we want to ensure that we have enough people turning out and signing in to enable an appeal. This is why it is extremely important to attend this ARC meeting at Rideau H.S.
The OCDSB has now informed us that the Rideau High School parking lot should accommodate our parking needs, but in the event of overcrowding, there is on-street parking and Queen Elizabeth parking lot next door. Click on map for parking indicated in RED.
If you’re in need transportation, please contact info@bhnca.com and we will arrange it.

LET THE CITY KNOW COLONEL BY COUNTS ON APRIL 21STOn April 1st 2009 we distributed buttons and posters to attendees of the meeting which helped identify the level of support we have in the community. I am also happy to have seen them though out the neighbourhood and in car windows which is great to see. We have more buttons and posters that will be available at the door on April 21st at the Rideau HS meeting. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes early to receive them as all supporters of Colonel By should wear their pins and have posters on hand. To be environmentally friendly if you are able to bring a button and poster if you have them already would be great.
Speaking
At the April 21st meeting the format of the meeting will include 2 minutes MAXIMUM of speaking time per individual at the microphone. Currently I am forming a list of speakers to begin the discussions to make sure that we are covering off all the strengths of Colonel By. Areas that require speakers include school sports, the importance of Colonel By and what it brings to the community, seniors in the community, realtors to speak about the cost on the community in the event the school closes or any ideas you have. (Email me at tim@bhnca.com if you have a area you wish to speak about)Email the BoardMake sure you get your comments in by writing to : BeaconHillOttawaEastSecondaryStudy@ocdsb.ca and cc info@bhnca.com as they do review this information. Below are some quick facts and talking points to help with speeches or emails.
Colonel By is one of five schools in the central east corridor of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) which is being reviewed by the Accommodations Review Committee (ARC). Although Colonel By is close to capacity and is arguably the top school in the school board, it is being reviewed for closure along with other schools in the area.
