COLONEL BY UPDATE

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED : Colonel By Counts but needs your help NOW !!!!

Beacon Hill North Community Association is re-established.

I would like to thank everyone that was in attendance at the Friday October 17th meeting at the Beacon Hill community centre and in helping re-establish our Beacon Hill North Community Association (BHNCA).

The attendance was overwhelming (over 130) and shows the need for such an organization in the community, and will give our community a voice when it comes to the socio-economic factors that affect us most.

The following executive positions were elected:

• President – Tim Tierney (2nd by Michelle Muncaster)
• Vice President – Bryan Johnson (2nd by Evelyne Power Reid)
• Treasurer – Marlene Dobson (2nd by Tannis McLeod)
• Secretary – Jenny Tierney (2nd by Marcella Zigmond)

Also, the following persons were nominated and acclaimed to the Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) committee:

• Evelyne Power Reid
• Barb Sinclair

I thank you all in advance for the time you are willing to dedicate to a very worthwhile cause.

A big thank you to Liz Stannich, Rod Beaupre and Jennifer Harris for helping get the October 17th meeting together, and helping start the association discussions.

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE

I am happy to report, on Monday the 20th of October the BHNCA activated a new web address www.BHNCA.com and following a executive meeting we have now launched it. The website will allow for community interaction, a discussion area and survey will be coming in the near future.

The BHNCA will be monitoring and getting involved in the following areas of concern:

- Possible school closures (ARC committee)
- Kettle Island vs. Lower Duck Island bridge options
- Graffiti in the community and Theft (from vehicles)

I have also taken time to speak with our city councillor(s), federal and provincial members as well as the principal of Colonel By and will be reporting on in the near future.
