Dear Residents,
After a busy end of year, we can take pride as a community of the successes we have had to date.
Your community association has met and has prepared a plan for the upcoming year. With the great success of the Big Beacon Hill Garage Sale, Canada Day Picnic in the park, Winter Family Fun and Craft Fair In Support of the Beacon Learning Centre, and other community events your association has planned an action packed year ahead.
As well as recurring and new community events, we do have serious issues in which the community must continue to take part. Below, we have provided a quick update of current issues, some serious, some not so much, that we will continue to monitor and take the lead on.
Sincerely yours,
Tim Tierney, President Beacon Hill North Community Associationtim@bhnca.com
COLONEL BY CAMPAIGN & APRIL 10th PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Over the last 2 years your community association has worked extremely hard for Colonel By Secondary School, attending 25+ meetings and organizing countless communications and rallies. As you may already be aware, Colonel By, Rideau and Gloucester high schools have all been spared for now in the closure process as the result of hard work from all of us.
We would like to thank the many members of the community and the leaders that attended board meetings, representing our association at the ARC as well as other supporters that prevented our school from closing.
On Saturday, April 10th from 9AM to 11AM we will be holding a community pancake breakfast to thank our “COLONEL BY COUNTS: DON’T MESS WITH SUCCESS” team, with all proceeds going to the BHNCA.
INTERPROVINCIAL BRIDGE
Currently the interprovincial bridge has entered its Phase 2A environmental assessment stage. As a community, Beacon Hill has been selected for community consultations, as their decision could impact our community.
The Aecom-Delcan group will be conducting the meeting in conjunction with the association. Due to time constraints, this meeting is scheduled for March 22nd, 5pm-7pm at the Beacon Hill North Community Centre (2132 Radford cres. [behind Annunciation of the Lord church]).
Kettle Island (Corridor 5); Lower Duck Island (Corridor 6); and Gatineau Airport/McLaurin Bay (Corridor 7) are the corridors that will be discussed in Phase 2A discussions. The association will be seeking clarification on the terms "Canotek Corridor" and “corridor 6.5" that have been used in recent weeks. If you are at all concerned about the position of the bridge relative to our community, this is a good opportunity to have your questions answered.
BIG BEACON HILL GARAGE SALE
We are proud to announce the 2nd annual Big Beacon Hill Garage sale will be held Saturday June 5th 2010. Details to come, stay tuned as we will be adding garage sale site registration on the BHNCA.com site in the days to come.
BEACON HILL VARIETY SHOW
Like so many Hollywood movies, we're going to try and reboot the Variety Show (like Steve Martin's Father of the Bride, not remake/kill it like Steve Martin's The Pink Panther) . The Beacon Hill North Community Association is trying to produce a Variety Show where local talent can perform songs, music, dances, mini-plays and photo and art displays. Local non-talent can repeat dirty jokes or give PowerPoint presentations.
If there's anything you or members of your household, business or organization would like to perform, please let us know by sending an email to varietyshow@bhnca.com.
Note that this will be a licensed event so we can only accept performers over the age of majority. We can only put this on if enough people participate, so don't be shy to sign up your spouse to tell a joke you wouldn't normally let them tell in public (you know, the one about the koala, the penguin and the dictionary). Forward this email to friends who didn't like The Pink Panther remake.
